Fairfield University names new residence hall after alumnus E. Gerald Corrigan

Work is underway to prepare Corrigan Hall for its opening in 2026.

Fairfield University has announced it will name its newest residence hall in honor of the late E. Gerald Corrigan, a 1963 alumnus and trustee emeritus known for his leadership in American finance.

Corrigan Hall is scheduled to open in fall 2026. The two-story facility will house 186 sophomore students and include three-person bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a shared kitchen and a lounge area. The site previously served as the Center for Financial Studies before being repurposed for the Charles F. Dolan School of Business.

“Jerry exemplified the very best of a Jesuit education—marked by intellectual rigor, principled leadership, and a life dedicated to the common good,” said University President Mark R. Nemec.

Corrigan served as president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He was later a managing director and partner at Goldman Sachs. During his tenure at the Fed, he was credited with taking swift action to stabilize the financial system following the 1987 stock market crash.

A long-time benefactor of the university, Corrigan established the Zedillo Scholarship and the E. Gerald Corrigan ’63 Chair in the Humanities and Social Sciences. He also honored his mother by naming the Mary Hardy Corrigan Reading Room in the DiMenna-Nyselius Library.
