
Fairfield University will welcome nationally recognized scholars and journalists to the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts this month for a February lecture series focused on religion, global affairs and film.
The series features historian of religion Elaine Pagels, CNN Chief National Security Analyst Jim Sciutto and journalist and film critic Elizabeth Weitzman. All events begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Quick Center.
On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Pagels will present “In God We Trust: Faith in America 1776–2026.” Pagels is the Harrington Spear Paine Professor of History of Religion at Princeton University and is known for her work on early Christian texts, including “The Gnostic Gospels,” which won the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award.
Sciutto will speak Monday, Feb. 23, delivering a talk titled “Reporting Foreign Affairs: How Does It Impact the USA?” Sciutto anchors “The Brief with Jim Sciutto” on CNN International and CNN Max and has reported from more than 50 countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine and the Middle East. He is the author of four books, including the 2024 New York Times bestseller “The Return of Great Powers: Russia, China, and the Next World War.”
The series concludes Wednesday, Feb. 25, with Weitzman’s lecture “American Women in Film.” Weitzman writes for TheWrap and previously spent 15 years as a critic for the New York Daily News. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Harper’s Bazaar and Marie Claire, among other publications.
